Gourmia GAF1220 vs GAF1290: comparing two 14-quart oven-style air fryers

These two Gourmia models share the main countertop-oven idea: a front door, one cooking cavity, a nominal 14-quart capacity, air-fry baskets, dehydration and a rotisserie set. The central choice is not capacity. It is whether the newer GAF1290’s integrated food probe and expanded preset interface are worth prioritizing over the simpler GAF1220.

What the manufacturer identifies as different

The U.S. GAF1220 page lists twelve one-touch cooking functions and the exact GAF1220 manual dates to 2022. It documents the Air Fry, Fries, Wings, Bacon, Seafood, Vegetables, Bake, Roast, Broil, Dehydrate, Reheat and Keep Warm presets. The GAF1290 page advertises 28 cooking presets, one-touch protein presets and an integrated temperature probe; its model-numbered owner guide is ©2025. Both manufacturer pages state 14 quarts and list an air-fryer oven, rotisserie and dehydrator role. Both current direct-store pages showed Sold Out when checked on October 25, 2026, so this comparison is about exact models and features, not a live stock report.

Choose the GAF1290 if probe cooking is a real need

The GAF1290’s probe is the substantive upgrade. For supported probe presets, the display reports live internal temperature and the unit signals when its selected target is reached. That can be more useful than choosing a time alone when cooking a thick protein. The manual limits probe use: Dehydrate, Fries and Bacon are unavailable with the probe, the guide says not to use it for frozen proteins or cuts one inch thick or thinner, and proper placement is important. If your need is “probe and dehydration in the same operation,” neither the product page nor owner guide says those can run together. Treat them as different operating plans.

The GAF1290 also brings more listed presets, but a larger number does not equal a larger cavity or separate controls. Its one cavity and two included air-fry baskets still share one cooking schedule. It does not become a twin-basket appliance just because the accessories can sit at different levels.

Choose the GAF1220 if the probe is not essential

GAF1220 retains the broadly useful functions: air-frying, baking, roasting, broiling, dehydration, reheating, keep-warm and the included rotisserie. Its exact guide gives ordinary Air Fry 170–400°F, Dehydrate 90–170°F and a 30-minute-to-24-hour dehydration timer. It lists the two air-fry baskets as top-rack dishwasher-safe and calls for at least four inches of clear space above and around the appliance. The manual says the rotisserie spit, forks, lift tool and baskets are top-rack safe; it does not make that same care statement for the drip tray.

If a built-in food probe is optional rather than essential, these features may be enough. If probe monitoring is part of the reason you want an oven-style fryer, the GAF1220 is the wrong match even though it offers chicken-related presets on other product families; the exact GAF1220 sources do not document a probe.

Shared limits to consider before buying either

  • One cavity: neither exact model offers two independently timed cooking zones. Selecting an oven format and one zone is accurate; selecting two independent baskets is not.
  • Large countertop appliance: both are nominally 14 quarts. The inspected pages do not give reliable exterior dimensions for both revisions, so measure available counter space and check the relevant manual’s clearances.
  • Unknown coating chemistry: the exact product sources do not make a complete PFAS-free claim. Do not interpret silence as proof in either direction.
  • Availability: the manufacturer pages were sold out at capture. Reconfirm the model code and seller terms if you find a listing elsewhere.

A power-rating discrepancy on the GAF1290

The GAF1220 manual states 120 V, 60 Hz and 1,750 W. For the GAF1290, however, the current store page says 1,750 W while the model-numbered 2025 manual text says 1,700 W. Since those are conflicting exact-model sources, the comparison leaves GAF1290 wattage unresolved rather than selecting the more convenient value. Buyers who need that number for a circuit or installation should verify the label on the unit with Gourmia. The GAF1290 manual PDF itself was blocked from local download during this review, although model-specific text from the indexed manufacturer guide was available for inspection.

Bottom line for the finder

Start with the way you cook. For a single 14-quart oven cavity that dehydrates and can rotate food, either model is a plausible fit. Add “integrated probe essential” and GAF1290 becomes the relevant version; add a requirement that probe use occur during Dehydrate, or a requirement for two independent zones, and the answer should change. GAF1220 fits a simpler shared-schedule workflow but should not be presented as a probe-equipped alternative. If neither model is available, use the same capacity, layout and probe requirements to compare current alternatives instead of treating the two Gourmia pages as purchasable now.
