Chefman TurboFry Touch Stainless-Steel 8-Quart Air Fryer (RJ38-SQSS-8T) review
The RJ38-SQSS-8T is the larger capacity configuration on Chefman’s TurboFry Touch stainless-steel product page. It has its own exact code and 24-page U.S. guide; do not assume that a manual for the five-quart sibling describes its presets. The unit is a single pull-out basket with a digital touch panel and one cooking zone. Its main case is nominal capacity, not a second drawer or a separate oven cavity.
One larger basket, not eight quarts of guaranteed usable space
Chefman lists 8 qt (7.57 L). That is the manufacturer’s nominal figure, not a measured usable volume, food-weight limit, or serving count. The manual says to keep food below the MAX line and leave room for circulating air; a large total volume cannot make a packed batch cook evenly by itself. One removable rack sits inside the drawer. You can remove the basket to check, shake, or turn food, and the guide says the fryer pauses while the drawer is out and resumes when it returns.
The 8-quart body is listed at 12.8 pounds with dimensions of 15.4 × 12.6 × 13.5 inches. Chefman does not label those dimension axes, so compare the numbers with your counter only after checking which side is width, depth, and height for the particular space. The code-matched manual does give a practical clearance rule: at least six inches above and behind. If a smaller unit is a better fit, the separately reviewed RJ38-SQSS-5T is the other capacity option on the same page, but it is a distinct SKU and configuration.
Preset defaults differ from the 5-quart sibling
The RJ38-SQSS-8T page lists four food presets—meat, chicken, fish, and fries—and a default starting point. Its exact manual sets Default to 15 minutes at 400°F, Meat to 18 minutes at 375°F, Chicken to 22 minutes at 375°F, Fish to 10 minutes at 350°F, and Fries to 20 minutes at 400°F. Those numbers are not identical to the 5-quart guide: there, chicken starts at 400°F, fish at 375°F, and fries at 18 minutes. That matters if you use presets without changing them, but the panel allows time and temperature adjustment, so these remain suggested starting values rather than fixed outcomes.
The product page specifies a 200–400°F range. The 8-quart guide explains local time/temperature selection and a halfway shake reminder, not an automatic stirring mechanism. These four food buttons are presets within one air-frying routine; they are not evidence of separate Bake, Broil, Frozen or Dehydrate functions. If one of those named modes or a temperature above 400°F is essential, compare an exact model whose page and manual document it. Do not borrow the features of similarly named TurboFry products.
Surface claims and everyday cleaning
The product is sold under a stainless-steel finish name, but that label alone does not establish that the cooking basket is bare stainless steel. Chefman describes the basket as nonstick; the exact page and guide do not name its base metal or coating formulation and do not state that every food-contact surface is PFAS-free. Treat that as unknown if material disclosure is a hard filter. The manual does clearly allow the cooled basket and rack on the dishwasher’s top rack. The main housing is a separate care task: wipe it, do not submerge it or put it in the dishwasher. Avoid aerosol sprays on the nonstick surfaces, as the guide warns they may chip the coating.
At 1700 W and 120 V, the page supplies the figures needed for a basic power comparison, but it does not list a 60-Hz value. The exact page also states a one-year Chefman assurance/warranty and claims cETL approval; both are maker statements, not an independent verification of certification or a guarantee of every seller’s coverage. Check the exact code and rating label if either power or warranty terms affect your choice.
Who is the 8-quart version for?
Choose RJ38-SQSS-8T when you prefer one digital, local-control basket and want the maker’s larger nominal capacity figure, while accepting one cooking zone and batch-by-batch attention. The heft and listed dimensions are also larger than the 5-quart sibling; the tradeoff is not simply “more is better,” especially if storage space or lifting weight matters. Its four preset suggestions have small but meaningful differences from the 5-quart guide, so retain the exact manual with the appliance rather than relying on a generic TurboFry preset list.
Look elsewhere if you need two independent temperatures at once, an easy-view basket window, a documented cycle above 400°F, a named specialist function such as Dehydrate, or a specific material claim that these sources do not make. The maker’s product page and payload showed the 8-quart SKU available when checked on October 24, 2026, but that stock snapshot can change. Confirm RJ38-SQSS-8T on the unit and seller page; same-family appearance is not proof that a different size or suffix has identical specifications.
