Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Would you rather load a small oven through a front door than pull out a fryer drawer?
AFR-25 is a door-front appliance. Its removable AirFry basket sits inside the included drip pan rather than sliding out as a freestanding drawer.
Explore this need in the finder →Do you want simple physical temperature and timer dials?
The exact booklet and image show two manual controls, not a digital screen or phone connection.
Explore this need in the finder →Is a documented broil use more important than a branded Grill mode?
The AFR-25 manual describes broiling; it does not list a separate named Grill function.
Explore this need in the finder →Do you require the exact manual to allow dishwasher cleaning of the basket?
It does not: the AFR-25 manual says to hand-wash the basket and pan and states that they are not dishwasher safe.
Explore this need in the finder →Would a 60-minute timer be enough for your comparison?
The page and manual list a mechanical timer up to 60 minutes with auto-off; a higher minimum is not met.
Explore this need in the finder →Do you need a nominal quart capacity or two independent cooking zones?
Cuisinart gives food-weight examples rather than a nominal quart or cubic-foot rating; use the published food examples only if they answer your portion question.
Explore this need in the finder →Do you require two independently controlled cooking zones?
The AFR-25 has one oven cavity and a basket insert; its two basket positions do not create independent zones.
Explore this need in the finder →The discontinued Cuisinart AFR-25 is closer to a small countertop oven than to the familiar pull-out air-fryer drawer. A front door opens onto one cavity, and air frying uses a removable mesh basket seated in the included drip pan. That distinction matters more than the word “compact”: you load it from the front, keep the pan underneath to collect drips, and use one program at a time. Cuisinart marks the exact model discontinued and out of stock, so this is a reference for model identification and used-appliance comparisons—not a current-stock recommendation.
A two-dial oven, not a digital basket
The exact booklet and product image show two physical controls: one for temperature and one for time. The manual gives a Warm-to-450°F dial range and a mechanical timer up to 60 minutes with auto-off. “Warm” is a label, not a numeric low-temperature specification, so it cannot pass a hard requirement such as a documented 100°F minimum. There is no documented screen, app, cooking-zone synchronization or automatic program bank to navigate. If you want simple settings at the appliance rather than a menu interface, the AFR-25’s uncomplicated controls may be the appeal; if you want exact digital timing or a named preset for each food, a current drawer fryer is a better place to look.
In its instruction booklet, Cuisinart describes air frying, baking, broiling, roasting and toast use. For air frying, put the basket inside the pan. The manual describes an upper and lower position for the tray assembly, but those are rack positions within the same oven—not separately controlled zones. For baking, broiling or roasting, the pan can be used without the basket. The booklet notes that the unit has only top heaters and recommends turning toast for even browning. It does not advertise a named Pizza, Bagel, Grill, Proof or Dehydrate function; “broil” in the instructions is not interchangeable with a branded Grill mode.
Use the food examples carefully
Cuisinart’s product page and recipe chart give a maximum air-fry load of 2.5 pounds of wings. The same booklet lists a different maximum—2 pounds—for frozen fries. Those quantities are useful for planning a batch, but they are not a nominal quart capacity, a serving guarantee or an independent test of how evenly a crowded basket cooks. The manual advises a single layer where possible and turning or tossing larger or full loads partway through. If you are shopping by a minimum basket volume, the AFR-25 has no published quart or cubic-foot rating and should not be treated as though a food-weight figure were a volume conversion.
The manufacturer lists outside dimensions of 12 inches long by 11.75 inches wide by 11.5 inches high. Its weight field reads 11.8 without a unit, so this review does not convert it to pounds. Measure your own countertop, door swing and outlet position. Cuisinart’s manual asks for 2–4 inches from walls or nearby objects, warns that the outer walls become very hot, and says not to operate it under wall cabinets or in an appliance garage. A compact footprint does not make it suitable for every tightly packed counter.
Plan on hand-washing the basket and pan
Here the original AFR-25 booklet fills an important model-specific gap: the AirFry basket and Baking/Drip Pan should be hand-washed in hot, soapy water, and the manual says they are not dishwasher-safe. Unplug and let the appliance cool before cleaning. The product page calls the interior nonstick, but neither that phrase nor the stainless exterior identifies the basket’s base metal, coating chemistry or PFAS status. If any particular food-contact material is essential, the available documentation does not establish it. The booklet’s original warranty section states a limited three-year term for U.S. and Canadian household purchases; that historical language is not a promise that a used or discontinued appliance remains covered today.
Who should keep it in the comparison?
Keep the AFR-25 in view if a front-door oven, a small set of physical controls, an air-fry basket-plus-pan arrangement and several oven-style uses match the way you cook. It may also help when identifying an older Cuisinart by its exact model code and matching the correct manual or parts. Do not choose it for an essential dishwasher-safe basket, two independent zones, a verified quart minimum, a numeric low setting, a digital interface or a current-stock purchase: the maker’s page says discontinued and out of stock, and those needs either conflict with the one-cavity design or are not documented.
If you want a pull-out basket, compare the separately reviewed Cuisinart AIR-200NAS rather than assuming “air fryer” means the same loading layout. For an oven with a different published program list, the TOA-26 is another exact model with its own manual; do not transfer AFR-25 settings, accessories or controls to it. A used AFR-25 should be checked for the full AFR-25 label, both included cooking pieces, door condition and the exact instruction booklet before use. The manufacturer’s AFR-25 listing and its linked instruction booklet are the right starting references; the page itself records the discontinued, out-of-stock status.
