PowerXL Vortex Dual-Basket Air Fryer Pro DUAF-005 (9 qt.) review

Recalled U.S. model reference only. The exact DUAF-005 owner manual lists two separately controlled baskets of 4.5 qt each (9 qt combined), 1,700 W, and AC 120 V/60 Hz. CPSC Recall 24-051 includes this model for a burn hazard involving the plastic U-channel connector. Follow the official stop-use and refund instructions; this is not a purchase recommendation.

A useful fit for

Useful only to an existing owner identifying a PowerXL dual-basket appliance or comparing the historical manuals: DUAF-005 is the 9-qt total version with two 4.5-qt baskets. It is recalled, so it is not a product to buy, operate, or shortlist.

The main tradeoff

Its manual documents two independently set baskets, Sync Finish, a Shake reminder and a Dehydrate preset, but the owner guide’s lowest-temperature statements conflict and basket dishwasher safety is not documented. The controlling decision is the CPSC stop-use recall, not a feature comparison.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Are you identifying the recalled 9-qt DUAF model by its two-basket layout?

The exact DUAF-005 manual lists 9 qt total, split into two 4.5-qt drawers. That is useful for identification, but CPSC Recall 24-051 means this model is not a purchase or use recommendation.

Do two different cooking schedules need to finish together?

The manual documents Sync Finish for different basket times; however, the entire exact model is included in a stop-use recall and is excluded from recommendations.

Must a listed low-temperature limit be certain and the removable basket be dishwasher-safe?

The technical table and control instructions conflict on the lowest setting, and the manual tells owners to hand-wash the baskets; only the Fry Tray is expressly called dishwasher-safe. The recall is an additional overriding exclusion.

Do you need a verified app connection or an integrated food probe?

Neither is established by the full owner manual; unknown features cannot meet either essential need. The recall independently excludes this exact product.

Is a documented 90°F Dehydrate endpoint essential, rather than its named 120°F preset?

The exact DUAF-005 manual charts Dehydrate at 120°F for two hours and conflicts on its adjustable low limit; CPSC Recall 24-051 independently requires owners to stop using the unit.

Important: PowerXL Vortex Dual-Basket Air Fryer Pro model DUAF-005 is covered by the CPSC’s December 2023 burn-hazard recall. This page helps an existing owner distinguish the 9-quart Pro from the similar 10-quart DUAF-10. It is not a purchase recommendation, a safe-use plan, or advice to keep using the fryer in a different configuration. The official CPSC recall notice directs consumers to stop using the recalled models and contact Empower Brands for a full refund.

DUAF-005 means the 9-quart model

The precise printed code matters: the DUAF-005 manual identifies a 9-quart appliance, with two 4.5-quart baskets. Its near-twin DUAF-10 is a separate 10-quart model with two 5-quart baskets. Both names appear in the same recall notice, so adding “Pro” to DUAF-005 does not make it exempt. The CPSC says to find the model number on a white label underneath the unit or on its power cord. It describes black and cinnamon recalled units, but color is not a substitute for the model code.

The DUAF-005 manual lists AC 120 V/60 Hz and 1,700 watts. Its external dimensions are given as 13.19 by 12.68 by 15.12 inches; the manual does not label the order of each axis, so verify the countertop footprint from the exact appliance rather than guessing which value is width or height. The CPSC’s notice gives rounded approximate dimensions and weight for model identification. These sources support a clear historical identity, but do not prove that a used listing is complete, in safe condition, or eligible for any particular remedy beyond the official recall directions.

Separate controls and synchronized finishes in the owner guide

As a model reference, this is a dual-drawer appliance rather than a single deep basket with an internal divider. The manual shows Basket 1 and Basket 2 selectors, individual time-and-temperature displays, and separate settings. Its Sync button coordinates different schedules: the basket with the longer time begins first, then the appliance signals when to add food to the other drawer so the two countdowns can end together. A Shake reminder can beep and flash at the halfway point. The guide lists eight presets plus the initial default setting, with menu choices for foods such as fries, fish, eggs, chicken, bake, steak, vegetables and Dehydrate. The Dehydrate chart entry is 120°F for two hours.

Do not combine that preset with an assumed continuous low-temperature range. The specification table lists 90–400°F, yet the control-panel instructions call the adjustable range 180–400°F. A separate 120°F Dehydrate preset appears on the chart. Those lines do not establish the lowest adjustable setting for all functions, so a strict temperature-floor filter should treat the general minimum as unknown. The documented top setting is 400°F. The manual does not establish smart-app connectivity, remote progress, a probe, or a PFAS-free claim, and the number of preset icons does not answer those requirements.

Do not treat the large-basket arrangement as a workaround

The DUAF-005 guide illustrates connecting the two baskets with a plastic U-channel to assemble a larger 9-quart basket. It also warns that package contents vary and that some accessories may be sold separately; a listing photo does not establish that an individual seller includes the connector. The CPSC notice specifically identifies the U-channel connector used to combine the baskets as capable of breaking during use, posing a burn hazard. The recall covers the DUAF-005 itself—not merely one accessory configuration—so skipping the connector, using one basket at a time, or looking for an intact connector does not make this model a safe recommendation. Follow the stop-use direction for the recalled appliance.

Recall 24-051 reports about 319,000 units, 41 reports of breakage including three burns, and a full-refund remedy. Those are figures from the official notice, not a new test or an estimate of an individual unit’s risk. The manufacturer-linked manual is useful for model identification and historical feature comparison; it cannot replace the CPSC’s recall instructions.

What the exact cleaning information does and does not say

The manual describes the baskets and Fry Tray as having a special nonstick surface and directs users to hand-wash cooking accessories. It separately says the Fry Tray is dishwasher-safe, so that limited statement should not be widened to the basket. The coating chemistry and any PFAS-free status are not established in the reviewed manual. The housing must not be submerged or put in a dishwasher, and the manual cautions against abrasive cleaning tools. Again, those ordinary-care instructions do not override the recall’s stop-use direction.

As a purchase candidate, DUAF-005 fails: it is a recalled configuration and should not appear in a buying shortlist, whether a shopper wants a 9-quart total, two independent schedules, a synchronized finish, or the Pro name. For an existing owner, it is useful to know that the 9-quart label distinguishes it from the DUAF-10 and that both are recalled. If comparing alternatives, check each full code against current safety notices and verify the exact package and instructions. Neither this article nor a manual-only comparison certifies a different model as safe, current, or in stock.
