Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Would one XXL basket and one shared cooking schedule suit your usual batch?
Philips lists 7.3 L (about 7.7 U.S. liquid qt), up to 1.4 kg fries and up to six portions, but there is only one basket and one cooking zone. Capacity conversion is nominal, not a separate Philips quart rating.
Explore this need in the finder →Do you want Smart Chef to estimate time and temperature for supported foods?
The exact product page names Smart Sensing, and the linked HD986X family manual explains five Smart Chef groups. During blinking calculation bars, do not open the drawer; use manual mode if a partly cooked batch needs extra time.
Explore this need in the finder →Do you need two physically separate baskets that can run on different schedules?
No. HD9867/16R0 has one large opaque pull-out basket and one zone; foods with different settings need separate batches.
Explore this need in the finder →Must the exact product documentation establish 120 V and 60 Hz?
The exact Philips U.S. technical table lists 120 V / 60 Hz and 1725 W. A purchaser should still compare an individual appliance type plate with the outlet.
Explore this need in the finder →Is a defined low-temperature setting, or a PFAS-free surface statement, essential?
Philips’s exact reviewed page does not publish a full adjustable temperature range, and it calls the cooking surfaces nonstick without disclosing chemistry or PFAS status. Unknowns do not meet an essential limit or material disclosure.
Explore this need in the finder →Philips lists the Premium Airfryer XXL HD9867/16R0 with a 7.3 L basket, 1725 W power and five Smart Chef programs. Its defining feature is Smart Sensing: for supported foods, the appliance estimates cooking time and temperature and can adjust the time as cooking proceeds. This is still one large pull-out basket and one cooking zone—not a dual-basket machine—and the automatic programs are narrower than the phrase “set it and forget it” might suggest.
One generous basket, one shared cooking schedule
The nominal 7.3 L volume converts to about 7.7 U.S. quarts. Philips says the XXL basket can hold up to 1.4 kg of fries and describes the capacity as up to six portions; that is not a guarantee that every dense load will brown evenly. The manual’s Smart Chef guidance is more useful for planning: frozen fries are listed at 0.5–3 lb and homemade fries at 1–3 lb. Food depth and room for hot air still matter alongside the headline volume.
Despite the large drawer, HD9867/16R0 has one basket and one zone. Foods with different temperatures or finish times cannot run independently. Cook them in turns, or choose recipes with compatible schedules; there is no second basket to sync. The drawer is opaque, so check the food by pulling it out after the program allows, not by looking through a window. If you need two separately controlled batches more than you need one large basket, compare a true dual-basket model such as the COSORI Dual Basket.
Smart Chef is useful only for its supported foods
The five programs cover frozen fries, homemade fries, fish, drumsticks and whole chicken. Philips’s linked HD986X family manual says to start at room temperature without preheating, distribute food evenly, and use no accessories. It asks users to weigh whole chicken first and specifies raw, not frozen, chicken. The fish guidance covers salmon and whole fish, not frozen fish. These are bounded recipe paths, not a sensor that recognizes any ingredient.
While blinking bars alternate with the temperature and time display, the machine is still calculating; do not pull the drawer. The manual says that stops and resets Smart Chef, and restarting on partly cooked food gives a wrong estimate. Once calculation finishes, you may inspect the food. A shake/turn signal still needs your attention, and food must be checked for doneness. If it needs more time, switch to manual cooking rather than asking Smart Chef to estimate a partly cooked load. The QuickControl dial also sets manual time and temperature and can save a favorite pair.
What its documentation says—and does not say
The exact Philips product table lists 120 V, 60 Hz and 1725 W, along with a five-program digital interface. The manufacturer page gives dimensions of 433.1 × 321.6 × 315.7 mm (about 17.1 × 12.7 × 12.4 in), weight of 7.99 kg (about 17.6 lb) and a 0.8 m cord. Measure the counter and leave room to pull out the full drawer and vent heat. This is a substantial appliance, and its cord is not especially long.
The exact support page links an English NAM manual called HD986X, but the cover omits the /16R0 suffix. Its cooking table gives suggested amounts and times for fries, fish, meat and vegetables, including some 400°F recipes; those examples are not a published adjustment range. The exact product page does not state minimum and maximum settings, so a specific low-temperature limit remains unverified.
Cleanup and the nonstick caveat
The manual allows the pan, basket and fat reducer in a dishwasher or hand washing with a non-abrasive sponge. The reducer sits below the basket to collect fat; let it cool and use the manual’s rubber-tipped tongs advice if it may still be hot. The cooking parts are nonstick, but Philips does not identify the chemistry or state that HD9867/16R0 is PFAS-free. A strict material requirement needs a model with explicit evidence.
The manual also describes a Keep Warm mode that defaults to 30 minutes and can be set from 1–30 minutes. It holds food at a temperature the user cannot adjust; Philips does not present it as a substitute for reheating. That can help bridge a short delay, but it does not turn the single zone into a second cooking schedule.
Which tradeoff matters most?
Choose this Philips when one large batch and automatic timing for a small set of supported foods are more useful than watching through a window or cooking two different dishes at once. The Smart Chef program can reduce routine setting choices, but the waiting/calculation step and mid-cook shake still require attention. Its one-zone format is easier to reason about than a split drawer, while its basket volume is considerably larger than the windowed Philips NA221/00 (4.2 L). That smaller Philips offers a view into the basket, but not the XXL capacity or Smart Sensing plan.
In the questionnaire, a required Smart Sensing program or a nominal 7.5-quart minimum can point to HD9867/16R0; requiring two baskets rules it out. The 7.5-quart value converts Philips’s 7.3 L, not a separate maker-listed quart figure. Unknown low-temperature limits and coating chemistry also cannot satisfy essential requirements. The electrical listing is explicit, but compare the unit’s rating plate with the outlet before use.
